Michter’s Single Barrel Bourbon 10 Year
So a coworker was nice enough to get me in contact with his friend who was moving across the country and happened to have an insane top shelf collection that he would rather part with instead of taking it with him. Bundling lots of 3 bottles, I was able to obtain a bourbon specific set for a “reasonable” price. What I mean by that is that I was getting them at a price lower than the average rate but still putting down a pretty penny. Now I’m usually content to stay in the mid-range 40-60 dollar range when it comes to bourbons. I figured what the hell though, the opportunity presented itself.
Unfortunately, the first of the 3 was pretty disappointing. For a 10 year aged bourbon, the Michter’s Single Barrel was surprisingly basic in taste. While it was very smooth and drinkable, it was very single note. That would be OK if it was in the normal price range, but the average cost of this bottle being in the ball park of 100 dollars. I wanted more complexity. For that reason it’s very hard to recommend. I plan on reviewing all 3 in the set and hope that the other two give me what I was expecting for the age and cost.
